Collins and Turner is founded on the idea that architecture, at its best, is purposeful, sustainable, enduring and joyful. Whether we’re designing a civic building, a workplace, or a private home, we look for clarity and rigour in the way a project is conceived, built and experienced.

Founded in 2002 by internationally trained directors Penny Collins and Huw Turner, the studio pairs a disciplined design process with hands-on collaboration to create robust, context-driven outcomes. Renowned for design innovation, technical excellence, and a highly collaborative ethos, Collins and Turner delivers significant public, commercial, and residential projects that make lasting contributions to the city, its communities, and the wider landscape.

Our design process begins with independent exploration guided by the directors before coming together as a wider studio to test and refine ideas. Through this exchange, every project benefits from multiple perspectives and a disciplined process that leads to clear, robust outcomes. We believe that each project should be as strong in concept as it is practical to build, and we focus relentlessly on diagrammatic clarity, restraint in material and versatility in use.

Our work is collaborative by nature. We listen closely to our clients and communities, and invest time in genuine partnerships with consultants, contractors, and First Nations collaborators. We see these relationships as the foundation for lasting social and civic impact. Sustainability, adaptive reuse, and an engagement with Country are embedded in our work from the outset.

While we bring international experience, our strength lies in our Sydney base. Since founding the studio in 2002, we’ve delivered projects at every scale for public and private clients, always with involvement from inception to completion. Our practice is grounded in our method and the ambition to set new standards for context-responsive design.

At Collins and Turner, we are thoughtful in what we do, persistent in delivery, and committed to architecture that improves the city and the lives it serves.
