“We are always looking to create something of lasting value, for the future generations of users.”

Born in Sydney, Penny studied at Ascham School and the University of Sydney, where she developed a keen interest in sustainable architecture and urban design. Her passion for innovative building solutions led her to work in 1986 at the NSW Government Architect’s Office, where she contributed to several landmark projects that emphasised environmental responsibility. Between 1987 and 2002, she honed her skills in the offices of renowned architects Tony Meadows, Nicholas Grimshaw, and Richard Rogers in London, where she was involved in high-profile projects that pushed the boundaries of contemporary architecture.

In 1993, Penny joined Foster and Partners, working in both the German and London studios until 1999. During this time, she played a pivotal role in designing cutting-edge structures that integrated modern technology with aesthetic appeal, earning accolades for her innovative approach. Penny’s ability to blend functionality with beauty has made her a sought-after architect in the industry.

After moving back to Sydney in 2000, she worked as an architect within the property industry, where she gained invaluable insights into the commercial aspects of architecture. In 2002, she co-founded Collins and Turner with Huw Turner, where they have since built a reputation for delivering exceptional architectural solutions across various sectors. Together, they take responsibility for all aspects of the practice’s work, ensuring that each project reflects their commitment to quality and sustainability.

Penny is a registered architect in NSW and is known for her leadership in the field. In 2020, she was appointed by the NSW Government Architect to the State Design Review Panel and to the Randwick Council Design Excellence Advisory Panel, where she provides her expertise to enhance the quality of architectural design in the region. Her contributions to the field continue to inspire emerging architects and shape the future of urban landscapes.
