Upon completion, the Huntley Street Recreation Centre project will see the adaptive reuse of an existing 1980s-built large-scale warehouse into a multi-functional sports and commercial building serving the expanding Alexandria and Green Square communities.

The new sports centre has four indoor multi-purpose courts for sports competitions, programs and public court hire and will cater for a range of sports including basketball, netball, futsal, volleyball and badminton as well as a comprehensive program of accessible sports for wheelchair users.

The upper level of the building will provide 600 sqm of additional community space and will include facilities including a gymnasium and multi-purpose spaces for use by the community, such as for dance classes. The project additionally consists of creating a major new public space in the form of an activated forecourt which will include extensive landscaping, half courts and spaces for fitness, with a direct connection to the Alexandra Canal and livable green network.

A Development Application was approved in July 2023, with construction forecast to commence in 2024.
