Icon Update
One of Sydney’s most enduring and beloved hospitality institutions, for over 25 years, Café Sydney has occupied a premier position above Customs House, commanding an unparalleled outlook over Circular Quay, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the Opera House.

Over twenty five years, Cafe Sydney has established itself as an essential part of the city’s dining culture—an elegant yet welcoming destination that captures the spirit of contemporary Sydney. Celebrated for its refined atmosphere, attentive service, and exceptional cuisine, Café Sydney remains the venue of choice for both milestone celebrations and intimate gatherings, embodying a timeless sense of place within the city’s urban and cultural fabric.
In recognition of its iconic status, our recent refurbishment works were approached with sensitivity and respect for the integrity of the original design by John Morford, while carefully enhancing functionality and guest experience. The upgrades encompass works to the Havana Bar, private dining room, main dining area, and external terraces, each refined to reinforce the venue’s distinct and much loved architectural character and harbour edge sophistication. New materials, lighting, and finishes were selected to complement Morford’s design vocabulary—balancing warmth, texture, and contemporary detailing to ensure continuity with the venue’s heritage and atmosphere.
The result is a seamless evolution of a Sydney institution: a subtle renewal that honours Café Sydney’s legacy while reaffirming its place as one of Australia’s most recognisable and celebrated dining destinations.
