A sculptural sanctuary in the heart of the harbour city
The design for a new CBD hotel tower draws inspiration from Sydney’s most iconic natural features—its coastal sandstone cliffs and the interplay between natural and man-made pools along the city’s harbour edges.

Carried out in collaboration with PTW and March Studio, the project comprises a 54-storey hotel tower offering 412 guest rooms, positioned above an 11-storey commercial podium. This mixed-use composition is unified through a distinctive architectural language that responds to both its urban and natural context.
Entry to the building is through a newly created public plaza, conceived as a sculptural erosion of the building mass—an immersive, cave-like threshold that invites discovery and provides a sense of retreat from the surrounding city. The geometry of the tower and podium façades features a refined chevron motif, referencing the Art Deco detailing of the neighbouring City Mutual Building by Emil Sodersten. This gesture pays homage to one of Sydney’s architectural landmarks while establishing a contemporary identity for the new development.
The plaza serves as a vibrant civic space, activating the street with entries to both the hotel and commercial office lobbies, and anchored by a dynamic food and beverage precinct. A major restaurant, cafés, and pop-up retail offerings will contribute to the life of the precinct throughout the day and into the evening.
Water is a central theme woven throughout the project, expressed both materially and spatially. Beneath the plaza, a wellness and fitness centre is conceived as a dramatic subterranean grotto. Clad entirely in deep green marble, the space includes a swimming pool and thermal facilities, offering an immersive, sensorial experience evocative of Sydney’s hidden coastal rock pools.
Through its integration of landscape, architecture, and material richness, 4–6 Bligh Street aspires to create a refined and memorable addition to Sydney’s CBD skyline.
