Born and raised in Wales, Huw completed his architectural studies at South Bank University in London before commencing his career in the studios of internationally acclaimed architects Eva Jiricna and Richard Rogers. He subsequently joined Foster + Partners, where he worked throughout the 1990s in the German and London studios.
During his time at Foster + Partners, Huw contributed to a wide range of high-profile international projects across various scales. Notable works include the landmark Commerzbank and Arag Towers in Frankfurt and Düsseldorf, and the acclaimed redevelopments of the Reichstag in Berlin and Imperial College in London. Huw served as Project Architect for Phase 1 of the European Headquarters Campus for Electronic Arts (EA), the world leading computer games developer.
In 2000, Huw relocated to Australia, joining Hassell as a team leader in Sydney. There, he led the design and delivery of the Liverpool–Parramatta Rapid Bus Transitway—an award-winning transport infrastructure project in Western Sydney commissioned by New South Wales government.
In 2002, Huw co-founded Collins and Turner with Penny Collins. As co-director, he shares responsibility for all aspects of the studio’s work, with a particular focus on technical innovation, sustainable design, and the integration of advanced construction processes and methodologies across projects of varying scales.
Under Huw’s leadership, Collins and Turner has received significant industry recognition at state, national, and international levels. Key accolades include the Aaron Bolot Award for Multiple Housing and the John Sulman Medal—the highest honour in New South Wales for public architecture—as well as national awards for public and commercial architecture as well as sustainability.
The studio’s work has been widely published and internationally exhibited, with the Waterloo Youth Centre for the City of Sydney selected for inclusion in Repair, the Australian Pavilion at the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale.
Huw has been a guest lecturer in Sweden, the United Kingdom, and across Australia, and has regularly served as a Master’s design studio lead at both the University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
Huw is recognised for his strong design leadership, exceptional project delivery, and a commitment to innovation. His approach is defined by clearly articulated design concepts, thoughtful integration of sustainable principles, and outcomes that consistently exceed client expectations.
Huw is a registered architect in New South Wales.
