60 years of the AIA Acumen Practice Notes
We are delighted that the Australian Institute of Architects has chosen an image of Barangaroo House to represent the celebration of 60 years of the Acumen Practice notes.
The AIA Acumen Practice Notes are a comprehensive, regularly updated collection of practical guidance resources that support architects in the delivery of professional, ethical and high-quality practice. They cover the full spectrum of architectural work—including project procurement, contracts, risk management, professional conduct, sustainability, planning regulations, documentation standards, and running a practice. The notes translate legislation, industry standards and best-practice methods into accessible, practice-focused advice.
They are designed as a day-to-day reference for architects, graduates and students, helping practitioners navigate complex issues such as client–architect agreements, building codes, tendering, novation, professional indemnity, fee structures, disputes, and environmental design strategies. In essence, the Acumen Practice Notes act as a central knowledge base that supports consistent, informed and legally sound professional practice across the Australian architectural industry.
